Sivaji: The Boss

Sivaji: The Boss is a forthcoming magnum opus Tamil film, set to be directed by S. Shankar. It stars Rajnikanth, Shriya Saran, Prakash Raj, Vivek and Suman and includes Mallika Sherawat, Nayantara, director Shankar himself and Raghuvaran in guest roles. The movie will be subsequently dubbed into Telugu. The film’s score and soundtrack will be written by acclaimed composer A.R. Rahman. The first schedule of the movie was shot at Hyderabad’s Ramoji Rao Film City. Sivaji has given rise to great expectations due to the high-profile artists involved in its creation. It has been claimed to be one of the biggest films in the year 2007. The film will be released in India on April 12, 2007 and world-wide two days later on Tamil New Year’s Day.

 Audio

The Audio release has been pushed to 4 April 2007 in India and worldwide. The previous release date was the 20 May 2007. Unofficial mp3s of the Oru Kudai Sunlight (sung by Indian Rapper Blaaze) have been circulating the internet. This is a sample track of the first Sivaji song.
 Movie

The Movie release is still 12 April 2007 for India and 14 April 2007 worldwide. This could change like the audio release was pushed back.
 Trivia

‘Vaa..ji, Vaa..ji Sivaji - a song sequence shot at the Ramoji Rao Film City at Hyderabad with sets reportedly costing Rs. 2.75 crores.
The crew of the movie is under strict orders not to divulge any information about the film, its story or about the events on the sets. Still, some local magazines have managed to acquire pictures of the sets. This angered the director and AVM so much that the director is now planning to completely ban the use of camera-phones on the sets.
Aishwarya Rai, Ayesha Takia and Rani Mukherjee were considered initially for the role of heoroine but finally Shriya had gracefully accepted the role.
Actress Sandhya dubs her voice for Shriya in the film.
Names of many popular actresses, including Sadha, Trisha, Asin, Nayantara, Manisha Koirala and Shilpa Shetty were considered for making the item number in the film. But, finally, Mallika Sherawat, was reportedly selected to make a very special appearance in the song sequence. Later on, it was reported that Nayantara will also be doing an item number in Sivaji.
The Telugu dubbing rights of this movie has been sold to producer Bellam Konda Suresh for a price of Rs.25 crores (excluding Audio and satellite rights).
Rajinikanth, himself, sings a song in this movie. This is his second attempt at playback singing after a song in a previous film of his, Mannan.
This is the eighth film that music director and composer A.R. Rahman is working with director Shankar and the fourth film with Rajinikanth.
Indian stars Mohan Lal, Amitabh Bachchan, Nana Patekar and Sathyaraj were called on to play an important role in the film but the role had later been given to Raghuvaran due to the rejection of the role by the others.
This is the third time costume designer Manish Malhotra is working with director Shankar.
This is said to be Indian Cinema’s most expensive movie. As of March 20, 2007, the budget is at approximately Rs.100 crores ($19 million USD).
Rajini, being the highest paid actor in India, will be receiving a paycheck higher than what he ever got for this film. Out of Sivaji’s budget, Rajini takes home close to 40 crores.
For the first time Rajini tonsured his head for this movie.
Overseas distribution rights have been sold to Ayngaran International for approximately $3 million USD.
